The AGRISNET Projects launched by the Department of Agriculture and Cooperation, Ministry of Agriculture of the Government of India to provide improved services to the farming community. As a part of this initiative, it has also been proposed to utilize the funding to provide a secure network connectivity, support from the Central Office to the district office in order to utilize common database and network services between the State AGRISNET Centre and the District AGRISNET Nodes, for better information system, for decision support for evaluation, monitoring and policy support.
The Agriculture Department of the Government of Nagaland conducted a through study of present IT infrastructure for AGRISNET Project to analyze its objective, current status its strength and weaknesses, treat and opportunities Present in the current scenario.
The Agriculture Department of the Government of Nagaland (GON) envisions implementing Agrisnet in the State of Nagaland with a view to enhance transparency, efficiency and provide quality & prompt service to its citizens. Action Plan was chalked out by Government of Nagaland detailing the existing status, proposed activities, roles and responsibilities, and implementation methodology.
The Department is committed to the welfare and economic upliftment of farming community in general. Nagaland is basically a land of Agriculture. About 70% of the population depends on agriculture. Rice is the staple food and occupies about 70% of the total cultivated area, consisting about 75% of the total food grain production.
